Getting in and getting back in
I signed up on my phone and opened the email on my computer
That is fine and it works. Your email address is confirmed either way. What the computer cannot do is log you in automatically, because it was not the device that started the sign-up. So the screen asks you to log in once, and after that it is a normal account on both.
